Agafay Desert Day Trip from Marrakech
Agafay Desert Day Trip from Marrakech:
When you take the tour of the Agafay desert, which is just 30 kilometers southwest of Marrakech and is situated between the Lalla Takerkoust lake in the east, the high mountains of the High Atlas, and the road to the western Guemassa mine, you will learn about the incredible Sahara and explore the desert’s pristine nature and ruins. If you don’t have time to travel to the Sahara desert while visiting Morocco, this region makes for a wonderful day trip from Marrakech.
With this day excursion to Lake Takerkoust and the Agafay desert, you can get away from the bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of the desert and the countryside. We will pick you up from your lodging and take you west of Marrakech. The road is shaded by thick vegetation, olive and orange groves, and occasionally passes through the village of Ait Imour. From there, we will turn off the road and drive through a completely different landscape of stone desert, pale, brown plateaus, Bedouin people, oasis, and then tall hills with expansive views of the High Atlas.
Very punctual and friendly, The material was in good condition and the experience 100% recommendable. Sharing unpaved roads, traditional villages, picturesque landscapes and emotion in abundance are the ingredients of this cocktail, a good choice for everyone.
You’ll soon be back on the asphalt road with the old eucalyptus trees lining it after a few hours when tiny patches of green will start to sprout. It will eventually reach Lake Lalla Takerkoust’s shoreline, which was created as a dam and provides electricity to Marrakech. You may access the Nfis valley by traveling via minor hills alongside the dam, passing through Berber towns, and arriving at a Berber family home. You are welcome to go see the house and eat lunch there. After your meal, you can choose to hike for two hours with Saida or Hamid (not included in the price) or climb for an hour to one of the oldest settlements in the Atlas Mountains’ greatest forest.
Your journey will continue to Ouiragan through the forest and traditional salt pools before arriving in Asni, a small town (market on Saturdays) overlooking Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, after you have visited the traditional olive oil press. From there, you will descend between olive trees and terraced fields to the only house next to the Nfis river. Before reaching Marrakech, you will next go through the gorges of Moulay Brahim, the valley of Ghighaya, and Tahanouete.
